KM Refit Testimonial
Name: Tim Jones, Captain of the ‘Coro Coro’
Subject: Refit
Yacht: Royal Huisman 73 ‘Coro Coro’

We talk to Tim, the captain of the Coro Coro. This amazing 73 feet yacht has been at our shipyard for an extensive refit.
Tim: ‘After the current owner purchased Coro Coro in September 2022, the yacht was sailing in the Caribbean. Over time, it became clear that the keel was corroded and needed to be replaced. This type of work is highly specialized, and not every shipyard has the expertise to carry out such a refit.
Through the original builder of Coro Coro—Royal Huisman, where the yacht was first
launched in 1991—the owner was introduced to KM Yachtbuilders.
‘At the time, the yacht was still berthed in Antigua, and had to be transported to Makkum. Because the keel had a dangerous level of corrosion – condition was critical -, sailing the yacht to Makkum over the Atlantic was not option. The fastest and safest option was to ship her on a large cargo vessel to Amsterdam. From there, Coro Coro sailed to Makkum, where the refit began.’
‘During the refit, KM Yachtbuilders built and installed a new aluminum keel and a new Cummins engine. In addition, they upgraded the rigging and installed a bow thruster to improve the yacht’s maneuverability.‘
‘After the keel was installed and the yacht was launched—still without the mast—it sat perfectly balanced in the water. It was incredible to see. On the very first night, it rained, and the water flowed exactly as intended: down the deck, and straight out through the drain holes. KM absolutely nailed the design and execution.‘
‘After the refit was successfully completed, we left the yard to begin our journey toward Southern Europe. The yacht felt really solid sailed & preformed as never before! ‘
‘We would highly recommend KM Yachtbuilders, everyone at the yard is a professional in their craft, and beyond that, it felt like family to me. They shared the same passion and dedication for refitting Coro Coro as we did. A big thank you!’
