“We set out to build a safe, capable boat for high-latitude adventures, and ended up with something even more meaningful: a yacht shaped by trust, craftsmanship, and collaboration.”

Built to go North
Our passion has always been sailing to remote places, from Greenland and Svalbard to Antarctica. When we began looking for a yard that could build a boat fit for those conditions, KM Yachtbuilders kept coming up.”

“We were drawn not only to their experience with aluminium yachts, but also to their collaboration with Gerard Dykstra and his team. From the first conversations, it was clear they understood what we were aiming for.”

A true partnership
“What really stood out to us was how involved we were invited to be. Throughout the build, we visited the yard regularly, from the welding of the hull to the shaping of the interior. Even during Covid, KM stayed in close contact, keeping the process open and collaborative. Everyone we met, from engineers to craftsmen, took pride in their work. That meant a lot to us.”

Why KM Yachtbuilders?

  • Deep knowledge of aluminium yacht building – “Built to thrive in challenging environments, from polar ice to offshore passages.
  • High latitude sailing expertise – “Proven track record in delivering safe, capable yachts for extreme destinations.
  • Open and collaborative process – “A true partnership, with regular yard visits, open communication, and hands-on involvement throughout.
  • Excellent craftsmanship at every stage – “From welding to fine joinery, all work is done in-house by a passionate and experienced team.
  • A team that listens and cares – “Your vision matters. The yard takes pride in building not just a boat, but your boat.
  • Yachts designed to go the distance – “Technically advanced, beautifully built, and ready for real adventure.”

Inspired by the outer Hebrides
“We named the yacht ‘Luskentyre’ after a special place in northwest Scotland. The traditional feel of the boat, with warm wood, soft tones, and thoughtful details, reflects the style of homes in that part of the world. Together with KM, we were able to bring that atmosphere to life.”

Balancing tradition and technology
“Technically, the boat is modern and well-equipped, but everything is integrated in a quiet, considered way. We appreciated how the team helped us balance both sides.”

Ready for any journey
“Luskentyre has carried us safely to the far north, into the high Arctic, all the way to 79° north. She performed superbly: strong, reliable, and a comfortable home for our family adventures in some of the world’s most remote waters.”
