Subject: Custom 1/1 Expedition Yacht
Yacht: OCD 60 ‘Alvorada’
Design: Owen Clarke Design
Shipyard: KM Yachtbuilders

We spoke with the owner of the OCD60 Alvorada, delivered in November 2025, about their lifelong love for sailing and the journey to building a custom yacht.

“I started sailing at a young age and was immediately drawn to it — the wind, the water, the elements.”

The journey towards KM Yachtbuilders
In 2016 I made my first long-distance sailing trip with a Boréal. During the search for that yacht I also came across KM Yachtbuilders, known for the Bestevaer range. At the time the Bestevaer was too big and expensive for me, but the yard left a good impression.

In 2021 I began looking for a larger sailing yacht suitable for circumnavigation. We
couldn’t find the right yacht on the market, which led us to explore the option of a custom build.

Defining our ideal yacht
We had a clear list of characteristics for our new yacht: it had to be fast, low draft,
easy to maintain, offer plenty of redundancy, manageable for a crew of two, allow us
to remain largely self-reliant, and offer enough space to live on board comfortably for
long periods. The Owen Clarke designs stood out immediately, the lines, the interior
layout, the ergonomic deck layout and the sailing performance were exactly what we
were looking for.

Finding the right yard
When visiting different yards, KMY naturally came to mind. I already knew the yard and felt comfortable from the start. Choosing KM Yachtbuilders proved the right decision: craftsmanship, quality, and involvement throughout the build.

We could always visit the yard, received regular updates, and were included in all key decisions.

Setting sail for new horizons
Our journey has now begun. We are heading to Portugal to explore the grounds.
Many dream destinations lie ahead. We look forward to exploring the world with our
Alvorada, ‘morning light’ , as we set course for new horizons.
